May 19th, 2009With Whispered Laughter
It’s probably no secret that I love birds, including hummingbirds. That’s why I thought this video was super cool. It’s a super slow-motion video of a hummingbird. After watching this video, scientists discovered that a hummingbirds neck acts like a reservoir for liquids. If the hummingbird hadn’t evolved this way, it would choke to death while drinking. I also like watching the ruffling of feathers as it beats its wings.

That is cool to see. I love the green color on it. It looks funny watching those wings in slow motion though.

Thanks for the reminder. I’ve been out of the loop of life for the past 2 weeks and totally forgot about our hummers! I always have our feeder out by May 15th, but not this year.
Hummingbirds are ornery little critters. That must be why I enjoy watching them so much. I swear they’d rule the world if they weighed a pound!

What’s really cool is watching that full screen with a good monitor. It’s really clear for slow motion.
Love the greens. I’ve seen these same colors on beetles and thought the coloring is just cool.
