February 17th, 2008The War is Over!
No, not the Iraq war, silly. Don’t cross your fingers on that one. I’m talking about the Blu-Ray/HD DVD war. Sheesh…
TOKYO (Reuters) - Toshiba Corp is planning to stop production of equipment compatible with the HD DVD format for high-definition video, allowing the competing Blu-Ray camp a free run, public broadcaster NHK reported on Saturday.
Reuters
The day before Toshiba’s announcement, Wal-Mart made an announcement that they will no longer stock HD DVD movies and players. It is expected that Toshiba will lose tens of millions of dollars. They will continue selling HD equipment at stores but will no longer develop new devices.
I knew Blu-Ray would win. It just has a better name.

Yes, read that this morning and blogged about it too. I’m glad Blu-Ray won out.

Me too, it kinda makes up for old skool war: VHS beating out Beta-Max.

That was fast!
We’ve never tried either format. I wasn’t about to buy anything until this was settled. We already got burned once with a Beta format VCR.

I had no opinion on this won. But it did remind me of the VHS v Beta war.

We have a JVC for our tv and DVD/VHS. i dont like the model with two but it was on sale and we still have VHS’s. So we thought it would be nice to be able to put the old tv and Vhs player in the bedroom until the old tv blew up on us. Not literally.

I am happy that has been settled, not hopefully the prices will drop on Blu Ray discs. :geek:
