April 8th, 2007The Reservoir Frozeth Over
Before stopping at our friend Sonja’s home in Hungry Horse we took a drive up to Hungry Horse Dam and Reservoir. I tried to capture the interesting sight. The reservoir is mostly frozen, except near the dam. On our bright and sunny day the mountains and trees were reflected in the non-frozen (but still freezing!) water, and if you looked at it the right way, it looked like the ice dropped off of a shear cliff. I thought it was neat anyway. (If you click it to enlarge, the effect is more pronounced.)
Alpha creek runs into the reservoir through a culvert. The creek is flowing slowly, but the snow melt will increase the water flow. Even if it doesn’t look like the snow is melting.

Nice photos. Yes, the full size image was more dramatic.
Happy Easter

Cool. I love to be outside. As you have seen the pix of the girls feeding the ducks the few times you have stopped by. Hope you had a wonderful Easter.

That IS a neat effect! It’s sort of like an M.C. Eischer drawing.

Awesome photos! I’m sure by now you know I appreciate the beauty in these kinds of pictures and to see a bit of your state is an added pleasure for me.
I looked at the first photo before reading your blurb about it and had a heck of a time trying to figure out what I was seeing. Like you said it looked as though the ice dropped off a cliff or something. When I read the blurb I looked again and saw the reflection of which you spoke. Pretty kewl!
Thank you for posting photos like these. I love to see them here and hope someday to visit your fine state.
