August 16th, 2007Montana Wildfires ‘07 UPDATE
In good news, it seems that the Meriwether and Skyland fires are on their way to containment. In bad news, the Black Cat fire was recently spotted and nearby residents are being evacuated. Cross your fingers that fellow Montana blogger (and all around awesome chica), Patia won’t be one of the evacuees. The Black Cat fire is currently about 350 acres, but has the potential to grow rapidly.

I left out information about a few fires you see on the map, if you’d like the stats for them, just drop me a line. All stats are from the NIFC site, and if you’re using Google Earth, you can download the .kmz file here (the link is under the map).

Ouch. I know how terrible this is, as we’re close to a really big fire right now, and it’s on both sides of the border, being fought by both US and Canadian firefighters. The smoke today is just awful and it’s stinky, too. We watched the flames the other night and it was scary.

Thank you, sweetie.
I’m feeling better, as this fire is farther off than I originally imagined. And thank goodness for the cooler temps and sprinkles!

That little bit of rain was great, wasn’t it! We can even see the mountains up here today. Glad to hear you’re further away and not in danger!

Wow, those fires are really all over. I stopped and got pictures of some. Wasn’t sure if it was a nice thing to do, but I couldn’t stop the fires, so I took pictures.
