What the Devil is That? Want to know why this plant is called devil’s club (Oplopanax horridus)? Touch it and find out! It likes the moist shade beneath the big trees. Devil’s club commonly occurs in the wet bottoms of western hemlock forests and is related to medicinal ginseng. Native American’s used the plant to treat various ailments.
Here is a better picture of Devil’s Club (not taken by me).

What does it do….hit you? Kind of like the fly swatters that hit you if you had any ideas in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy??? :-)
I find any plant used to treat ailments interesting.

I’m allergic to, well, everything so I feel itchy just looking at it.

Tweetey, we do indeed have a lot of fun. When I get to Signpost #11 — this is where we found the geocache we were looking for — it was practically in plain sight!
LittlePea, you don’t even have to be allergic to this one, if you click on the link to the better picture you can better see how spiky this plant is!

That plant looks too much like a nettle for MY comfort!

Heh heh, I’m one of those odd people who likes the nettle sensation. Weird, yes, I know, but there’s quite a few of us out there!

I get nasty blisters from that shit. I can’t even use shampoo with nettle oil in it.
