January 3rd, 2007How Could I be so Stupid
I got an email yesterday from some e-postcard site that looked legit when I went to the homepage. The gist of the email was, “a family member has sent you an e-postcard.” Being that I get e-cards all the time, I didn’t think anything of it, I checked out the main site, and decided to look at the card meant for me.
Problem.
The link to my oh-so-very special postcard just for me started an automatic download of a trojan horse.
Great.
Avast (my anti-virus software) seems to do a pretty good job. I got a warning before the download was complete, and Avast deleted the file. But I’m still nervous about it. A full scan by Avast and Ad-aware have been run and I didn’t see anything too hinky when I ran Hijack-This. It still makes me nervous.
Doh!

Jeez, that sucks! I would’ve clicked on that one, too. I’d really catch flak as this is a work computer.
Hope everything stays okay for you.

Don’t you two read the links in your email before clicking on them? I got the same email. Saw it linked to an .EXE file so I just deleted it. Gotta be careful.

I try to be careful but sometimes the emails look so innocent … :|
Fortunately I haven’t been caught in a while but I do run an excellent anti-virus program as well as weekly adware and spyware scans.
To err is human … That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!

I’ve done that a couple times! Good thing you have an anti-virus.
Thanks for your visit. I slacked off in March of last year too :o)

L always warned me about the .EXE part too, but….I get a lot of ecards from friends too.
